SJMAA Track and Field provides kids in 2nd through 8th grades with an incredible foundation for athletic growth. From sprinting, to endurance running, and even field events, track challenges young athletes to push their limits, develop discipline, and cultivate teamwork. It’s not just about winning races—track helps kids build character, improve coordination, and enhance mental toughness. We run a flexible, informal program with certain things we try to teach the athletes to help them improve throughout the season, but since the Track meets are made up of a series of individual events, it is ultimately up to each athlete to set goals and work hard to meet or exceed them. Track is unique opportunity to participate in an activity with a wide range of parishes in a fun, supportive atmosphere.
Registration will run throughout the month of January. The registration fee includes a SJM Track Team shirt which they can keep.

Practices begin mid-March and will likely be held at Lindbergh High School. Early in the season we may have some practices inside the SJM Gym depending on weather. The season runs through mid-May. We participate in a CYC Practice Meet and CYC Qualifying Meet. Those placing Top 6 in their event(s) at a CYC Qualifying Meet qualify for the CYC Finals. Participants are grouped by grade. The grade groups and events that athletes can compete in are as follows:
2nd – 50M, 100M, 200M, Standing Long Jump
3rd-8th – 100M, 200M, 400M, 800M, 1600M, Running Long Jump
4lb, 6lb, 8lb Shot Put (depending on age group and availability of coaches)
4×100, 4×200, 4×400 (depending on number of athletes in each age group)
CYC Meets require parent volunteers to run the events. Each parent must volunteer for a two-hour time slot at each meet in which their child or children participates. We are also always looking for additional coaches/helping hands at practices, no prior track experience necessary!
