Staff will call the school nurse when a student has a health complaint and nurse will go to the classroom to assess student.
After initial assessment, if further treatment is needed that can’t be handled at the classroom location, the nurse will take the child’s temp and administer health questionnaire
Upon a negative temp and health screening, nurse will take child back to the nursing office (Well room) for treatment
If a child has a positive temperature or health questionnaire screening, the nurse will provide student (in K-3) with a mask and escort the child to the established Observation Room.
Upon arrival in the Observation Room, the nurse will don medical grade PPE as appropriate and provide treatment as necessary
In the even that symptoms and assessment determine a student will need to go home, a parent or designated adult will be called
Parents will report to school and buzz the school secretary to coordinate pick up of their child. Our school nurse will escort the child to parent and communicate next steps for health management including criteria for eventual return to school.
Broader communication to parents regarding a classmate’s illnesses will be guided by HIPPA and other St. Louis County guidelines.
If a SJM student tests positive for COVID-19, we will notify the school community in a way that protects the confidentiality of the patient.
St. Justin has two licensed Registered Nurses on staff daily. One of them will be in the building at all times during the school day. The Archdiocesan School Nurse will provide back up as needed.
