Jamie Hannibal, from SJM Troop 116, recently attended NYLT, a week long course designed to provide youth with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops. The NYLT course centers around the concepts of what a leader must BE, what he must KNOW, and what he must DO. The key elements are then taught with a clear focus on HOW TO.
After Jamie returned home, he reported
“At NYLT I learned about teaching others, conflict resolution, finding your vision and setting goals. I had fun meeting new friends, cooking my own meals, camping and playing team building games. I will use my new skills to help make the troop run better and plan better.”
Boy Scouts is a program for boys ages 11 to 17 which helps youth learn about duty to God, others, and self. Troop 116 welcomes all youth from SJM parish or elsewhere. It doesn’t matter if you go to day school or PSR. All youth are invited to join Troop 116. In February, the program will change from Boy Scouts to Scouts BSA and will also be open to young women.
