Pastor’s Message: Prayer Services

Dear Beloved Parishioners,

There are two Archdiocesan sponsored events coming your way that might be helpful for some…

Naming & Commendation Prayer Service

  • All are welcome to attend Naming & Commendation, a prayer service developed by the Archdiocese of St. Louis to meet the needs of families whose child died before birth for any reason (including miscarriage, accident, abortion or still birth). Parents and families of any religious background are invited to attend, whether the loss was recent or long ago
  • Naming & Commendation will start at 2 p.m. at St. Monica Parish in Creve Coeur on Sunday, November 7. The rite, celebrated by Fr. Tom Wyrsch, will offer parents and families an opportunity to name the child, bring peaceful closure to great loss, and unite with our merciful God.
  • RSVP: E-mail Diann Bomkamp at dbomkamp@sbcglobal.net or call and leave a message at 314-432-7719
  • To learn more, e-mail prolife@archstl.org or visit our website here.

And the second event:

Prayer Service for Spiritual Healing

  • Archbishop Mitchell T. Rozanski will preside at a Prayer Service for Spiritual Healing on Monday, November 22, at 7:00 pm, at St. Alphonsus Rock Liguori Church,  1118 N. Grand Blvd., St. Louis, Missouri  63106   Please enter the Church at doors on Cook Ave.
  • All victims/survivors of physical, sexual, emotional or verbal abuse by anyone – clergy, family, friends, co-workers or strangers – are invited to attend the prayer service. In addition, family members and friends of survivors are encouraged to participate, as well as those who are involved in helping abused people, and who want to pray for healing, reconciliation, and the prevention of abuse.
  • The Office of Child and Youth Protection, in collaboration with the Office of Sacred Worship, is organizing and sponsoring the prayer service.
  • For more information, please contact Carol Brescia, Victim Assistance Coordinator in the Office of Child and Youth Protection, at carolbrescia@archstl.org or 314-378-3627.

On the local level:

Next Saturday, Nov. 6th, at the 8 am Mass, we will be honoring the 34 parishioners who have died within the past year.  Their families have been invited to participate and we invite other parishioners, especially friends of the deceased, to join us as we remember them in prayer.”

Fall Fest Adult Night, rescheduled…

I am looking forward to gathering in the upper parking lot next Saturday, November 6th, for an informal, rescheduled fall fest Adult Night, starting at 7pm.  It looks like the weather is going to cooperate, though a sweater or warm jacket might be the dress of the evening…

John O’Sullivan has a few fire-pits lined up. If you have one of those propane heaters, that might not be a bad thing to bring as well. Call John, I am sure he’d be happy to coordinate.

Again, a reminder that the start time is 7pm.  And I will need a bit of help following the 5pm Mass to set up a few things…  Let me know if you can give me a hand..  314-635-2505.

Piano Pete, (of “Songs for a Quiet Mass” fame) will be playing some piano tunes for the first hour.  I will break out the guitar for a while, once I return from my “other gig” that night.

Ward on Wine will be offering a Wine Tasting that night.  Find out about their latest versions of Syncopation Wines.  Don’t forget to stop and get a name tag at the registration booth.  It will help all of us who have only seen each other above the mask for the past year and a half…

All in all, it will be a simple evening (ADULTS ONLY and BYOE) to reconnect to each other and strengthen the bonds that exist between us…

See you then, if not before…

The song of the day…

As we continue to think about those men and women who have fought the good fight and run the good race, and who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith, here is a version of a Josh Groban classic – You Raise Me up… by BYU Vocal Point.

Blessings,

 Fr. Bill

Ps – here is a bonus picture – the chapel at the Mother House of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio Texas, where my aunt, Sr. Rita Boul, spent the last 30 years of her life since retirement in 1990, and where I was graced to celebrate her funeral yesterday…
