SJM Website Updated

You might have noticed that the St. Justin Martyr website has a new look. In addition to what you can see on the public part of the site, recent updates to WordPress have made changes to the way content is added and edited.

This article provides an overview of these changes. Additional articles will be written to provide more specific help.

After you login, the first thing you might notice is that the options for Events, Documents, Links, Photos, Photo Galleries, and Videos are all gone. All of these different content types are now included in the Post type. So for any content you would like to publicize for a parish organization, just add a new post.

  • If your content is for a calendar event, you have an option to add the event date. If your content is not related to a date or event, just uncheck the box above the date picker. Adding a date is recommended if it is related to an event, since this will give your post publicity over multiple channels at the appropriate time.
  • If you would like your post to appear in the Documents section or Links section of the website, go to the Tags box and enter “Documents” and/or “Links” Your post can have multiple tags, so a single post can be a calendar event, a link, and a document. There is no need to enter your information on multiple posts.
  • To add a file, such as an event flyer, use the File content block. You can also add images or galleries using content blocks. So all of these different types of content can be included in your post.

Also note the the featured image no longer automatically appears on the page with your content. Instead, featured images are used in places with multiple posts, such as the home page and the calendar page. If you also want your image to appear in your post, you must add it as an image block.

Featured images and excerpts are optional now. Excerpts are the sort descriptions of the article which appear next to the featured image on pages with multiple posts. Adding these will make your post more noticeable, but it is your choice whether to add them or not.

So if you would like to add news or calendar events to the website for a parish organization, start by logging in and creating a new post. If you need additional instructions, please contact Jeannine Szatkowski.

The reservation functions and sign up functions are the same as before, although sign ups will probably be changing some time this year.
