SJM Youth Collect and Box Over 175 Boxes of Food

Scouts from St. Justin picked up a lot of bags of food in the neighborhood on November 17. The The Crew and our parish teens boxed it so it could be delivered to the St. Louis Area Food Bank. Thanks to everyone who donated and participated for your generosity.

Every year we get quite a few items which we can’t send to the food bank or which just aren’t good choices for a food drive. The teens vote for their favorite item which they considered not suitable for human consumption. We had a many choices this year, including a a lot of expired items which we disposed of. Their favorite “item of questionable utility” was a jar of almond butter which expired in 2016. The bag of prunes which expired in 2006 was way older, but the teens just didn’t like the idea of almond butter in general. Even more than they disapproved of prunes. 🙂 We do this to help teach them that when they give something those in need, it should be something which they would want to eat if they needed a meal.

We’ll do it again next year. See some photos of the event below.
