Faith in Action Service Day - Decorate and Deliver Flower Pots: - Get creative and paint a clay flower pot to be used at SJM or given to someone in the community. Volunteers will also plant flowers in each pot and help with deliveries to brighten someone’s day! You may be asked to bring a small amount of materials to help with the project (ie: a bag of planting soil, flowers or a clay pot etc). All ages welcome. 2 hour or 4 hour commitment.

Faith in Action Service Day - Throw Me Under the Bus!: - Volunteers will be placed at one of the projects based on need! 2 or 4 hr commitment.
Faith in Action Service Day - Crestwood Police Department: - Each year, the Crestwood Police Department raises money for the Special Olympics through the sales of Torch Run t-shirts. Volunteers are needed to sell T-Shirts in front of the Crestwood Shop ‘n Save as well as other locations. This is a great family or group activity - 2 hour commitment needed.
Faith in Action Service Day - International Institute Saint Louis Urban Farm: - The International Institute has provided essential community integration services to all immigrants coming to St. Louis. Volunteers will provide general maintenance for the IISTL Urban Farms in the Botanical Heights neighborhood. Volunteer activities at this site may include general maintenance (mowing, weed whacking, and trash clean up) and site development (spreading soil, woodchips, compost). 20 volunteers needed - no age requirements- requires a 4 hour commitment- will meet at SJM at noon and leave from there.
Faith in Action Service Day - Neighborhood Helper: - There are people in our parish as well as the wider Sunset Hills/Crestwood area with disabilities or limited mobility who need assistance with maintenance and/or repairs in their homes and yards. With a goal of reaching out to others, this group of volunteers will be doing yard work, painting, power washing, window cleaning, gutter cleaning, etc. All ages and skills welcomed; you will be assigned tasks according to your skills and abilities. This requires a 2 or 4 hour commitment. You will receive specific information on your assigned project the week before.
Faith in Action Service Day - Green Team: - Help create an herb garden for Father Bill and build a small “pollinator garden” for butterflies as a permanent gift to the SJM grounds to celebrate our first day of service!
Faith in Action Service Day - Peter and Paul: - Peter & Paul Community Services offers a year-round emergency shelter for homeless single adult men. Help us assemble lunches and create pre-measured bags of laundry detergent for the men at the shelter. You will be contacted the week prior to May 6th with specific supplies to bring such as food items for sandwiches. All ages welcome. 2 hour commitment.
Faith in Action Service Day - Labre Center for Men: - The Labre Center in the Shaw neighborhood provides transitional housing for mentally ill homeless men. Volunteers for this project will be lightly sanding and repainting a fence and assisting with simple landscaping projects on their property. 10-15 volunteers needed - Children must be accompanied by an adult. Requires a 4 hour commitment. Volunteers will meet at SJM at noon and leave from there.
Faith in Action Service Day - Sweet Shirt Stand: - Volunteers will sell lemonade and cotton candy in a “Sweet Shirt Stand” on site at St. Justin to benefit our new Room at the Inn project. They will also sell Torch Run t-shirts for the Crestwood Police Department. Proceeds from shirt sales benefit the Special Olympics. Note that this activity is sponsored by our youth ministry programs and will be run by middle school and high school students. 2 or 4 hour commitment.
Faith in Action Service Day - Summer Reading Book Drive: - Volunteers will help organize reading and math materials for local students who lack access to these resources in their homes. Volunteers will organize donated books, cut apart and assemble math games, and organize parent literature highlighting the importance of summer reading. 2 or 4 hour commitment. We need 5-10 volunteers for each 2 hr commitment. Children under 10 need to be accompanied by a parent.
Faith in Action Service Day - St Vincent de Paul Furniture Collection: - A St. Vincent de Paul truck will be parked at St. Justin to collect specific furniture items for the SVDP thrift store. Volunteers for this project will also retrieve items for those unable to transport their donations to SJM. We will need one driver with a truck or large vehicle plus an additional able-bodied adult for each pick up team. 2 hour or 4 hour commitment.
Faith in Action Service Day - Garden Team Helpers: - Volunteers will be doing numerous projects on the parish grounds including trimming, digging up dead plants, planting, and mulching. 2 hour or 4 hour commitment needed. All ages are welcome; we will need some strength for several of the projects.
Faith in Action Service Day - Fr. Bill’s Honey Do List: - Volunteers for this project will work on assorted task on the parish grounds. You might be washing windows, cleaning out closets, painting or doing general maintenance. All ages are welcome to participate and parental supervision is required for children. 2 or 4 hour commitment.
Faith in Action Service Day - Baking and Shut in Visiting Team: - Volunteers will help bake and package breads at the SJM parish center as well as make personalized cards for shut-in parishioners. Afterwards, the volunteers will deliver the breads and stay for a visit. Volunteers might be asked to donate a small amount of baking materials. A great family activity!
Faith in Action Service Day - Fleece Blankets: - Volunteers for this project will make ‘fleece tie blankets’ for 25 ladies who live at the Mary Culver Home for the Blind. Extra blankets made that day will be given to area hospitals and organizations. No sewing skills are required. This project will require you to bring 4 yards of fleece. 2 hour or 4 hour commitment. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
Faith in Action Service Day - Angels' Arms: - Angels’ Arms is dedicated to providing and supporting loving homes for foster children by keeping brothers and sisters together within a nurturing family until a forever family is found. Volunteers for this project will do project work at the Angels’ Arms Tesson House (12128 A Tesson Ferry Rd. St. Louis, MO 63128). This project is appropriate for all ages but requires parental supervision for children under 12. 10-15 volunteers needed - requires a 4 hour commitment- You will meet at SJM at noon and leave from there.
Thursday Envelopes: - Volunteers prepare the Communication Envelope that is sent home with the oldest child every Thursday.
Playground Duty Assignment: - This is a reminder of your playground duty assignment. Please plan on arriving in the office to sign in prior to reporting to playground supervisor.
