St. Justin Martyr Athletic Association Basketball Program Information

St. Justin Martyr CYC Basketball is open to boys and girls in grades 3-8 who attend SJM Day School, attend SJM PSR, or reside within the parish boundaries. We usually have teams at every grade level. Practices usually begin in late November.

The 3rd-8th grade teams participate in the South County District CYC League. Games are played on the weekends and can be scheduled anywhere from Friday night through Sunday night. Games occur in south county parishes for the most part, but may include other sites across St. Louis.

A team’s Open/Closed status and a team’s prior year(s) win/loss record are used to determine the competitiveness of each team and ultimately, the league level the team will be placed by South County CYC. Open teams have players who also play on additional teams outside the CYC league. Closed teams include players who only play on one team within the CYC league. Playoffs begin in early March for 5th grade and older.

K-2 Instructional Basketball

Instructional Basketball is in “in-house” league for boys and girls in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade. The purpose of this league is to instruct smaller children in the rules of the game and to develop basic basketball skills. The teams are co-ed (siblings play on the same team). Basketball rims are lowered to 8 feet. One hour practice/games on Saturdays in Nov / Dec. One game per week for 5 weeks. Season begins November and ends in December.

Registration for both basketball program levels opens in early October and remains open for a three-week period.

CYC Cards are required for all participants and coaches.
