St. Justin Martyr Athletic Association Baseball/Softball Program Information

SJMAA offers an Instructional Baseball/Softball Program for those PreK through 2nd Grade and we participate in CYC for those 3rd Grade through 8th Grade. We do not have teams at every grade level, but strive to make sure that those that are interested in playing can do so through another Parish if possible.

Baseball/Softball registration usually opens mid-January and remains open through mid-February. Late fees apply after initial registration period. Uniform deposit may be required. CYC Cards are required of all participants and coaches.

Instructional Program for Preschool and Kindergarten Baseball/Softball

Pre-K children must be attending Preschool in order to participate (need not be Justin Time preschool). Our teams participate in the Queen of All Saints Instructional League.

From day one kids learn to hit from a coach’s pitch. A tee is only used when necessary. Game are small sided with the team typically broken into two team on two fields in order to keep the kids engaged.

Practices begin at the end of March and take place at SJM. Games begin later in April and run through the end of June. Games are played at various sites, mostly at, but not limited to, SJM, St. Catherine and Queen of All Saints. 13 games are scheduled with most, but not all games, being held Saturday morning.

Instructional Program 1st and 2nd Grade Baseball/Softball

This is still considered an Instructional Program and we participate in the Queen of All Saints Instructional League. The kids move to larger diamonds. A pitching machine, as opposed to kid pitch, is used to make sure there is more consistency and the ball is put in play more often.

Practices begin at the end of March and take place at SJM. Games begin later in April and run through the end of June. Games are played at various parishes across South County, but not at SJM. 13 games are scheduled with most, but not all games, being held Saturday morning.

CYC 3rd – 8th Grade Baseball/Softball

Beginning in 2017 pitching machines were implemented into 3rd Grade. This may carry over into for 4th Grade for 2018. The idea is to put the ball in play more often.

Practices may begin later in February and may be held in our gym or at St. Lucas. Games begin Mid-April and run through the end of June. Sites for the games are mostly at parishes in South County, but may include other sites across St. Louis.

Playoffs begin in July for 5th Grade and above. An Open/Closed status is used to determine the competitiveness of the team. Open teams have “Select” players. Closed teams have players consisting of CYC players only.
